Integrative Medicine

What is Integrative Medicine ?

Zanjabee Integrative Medicine “cherry picks” the best from western and complementary medicine to develop treatment options that are maximally effective, minimally invasive and tailored to the individual needs of the patient. It is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit). It emphasizes that lifestyle (nutrition, stress management and exercise) is integral to wellness. It actively recognizes the healing power of the doctor-patient relationship.

Who should seek an Integrative Medicine consult at Zanjabee?

Our patients seek our help for many reasons. Many are in good health and are looking for ways to prevent future illness and reach peak health today. Others are looking for solutions to specific disease conditions. Read what our patients say about our Integrative Medicine treatment.

Here is our treatment approach:

We believe that prevention trumps treatment any time. Time, effort and money invested into prevention have far bigger returns in terms of quality of life when compared to treatment. We focus on three elements of lifestyle namely:
  • Nutrition &#45 including supplement advise and personalized eating plans
  • Exercise &#45
    • Aerobics especially high intensity intervals
    • Weight training
    • Stretching

Integrative Medicine Approach at Zanjabee

Zanjabee Integrative Medicine is not “against” western medicine. Indeed if you have pneumonia (infection of the lung), Zanjabee believes (and best scientific evidence shows) that antibiotics are the treatment of choice to get rid of the acute lung infection. We also recommend chicken soup (chicken soup has phlegm breaking agents that help bring up the sputum and hasten recovery), honey and fresh lemon in hot water to boost immunity and probiotics to maintain the good bacteria in your gut while you are taking antibiotics. We also see if habits like smoking or underlying conditions like asthma are making you vulnerable to pneumonia and actively support your efforts to quit smoking and/or treat asthma optimally. Some patients can quit smoking cold turkey; some benefit from Acupuncture while others need Chantix or combination. At Zanjabee we have the expertise to guide you to right treatment option for you. If you have asthma and you are using your fast inhaler more than twice a week, you may need to be on a steroid inhaler. Zanjabee would also recommend an Ayurveda consultation. Ayurveda has a 2 thousand year tradition of herbs with inflammation-modulating properties, which over time may reduce or eliminate the need for steroid inhaler. Everyone who has pneumonia at Zanjabee is taught Breathing Exercises from Pranayama to facilitate deep breathing. Deep breathing is a natural cleanser for lungs and short sessions of specific breath exercises as well as mindfulness towards breath translates into fewer respiratory infections like colds, bronchitis and pneumonia. Zanjabee Integrative Medicine treatment approach can be seen in this treatment pyramid.

Zanjabee does not accept insurance for Integrative Medicine. Most Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Spending Accounts (HSA) funds can be used to pay for integrative medicine care at Zanjabee. FSA will usually cover the costs of prescribed supplements. When you are used to sporadic $20-$30 co-pay, paying directly for care can be an adjustment. We encourage all patients to investigate, in advance, what their deductible and reimbursement rates are. Our patients tell us the cost is worth the value of care they receive at Zanjabee.
